TROVE Travelers have experienced Florence, Italy and Kyoto, Japan; now, TROVE stays stateside, unveiling an original Seattle-themed box just for the holidays.
Seattle, WA. (November 19, 2020) -- People around the country are taking in the cultural traditions and tourism experiences to be had at destinations around the world with TROVE. This new subscription and gift box has people discovering the sights, sounds, and tastes of city after city all from the comfort of their home. Co-founded by two Seattle-based women, TROVE today unveiled its third box is to be a Seattle, Washington theme. Just in time for the holiday season, this box puts Northwest culture, food, coffee, and more centerstage featuring interactive workshops with Eat Seattle’s Chef Liz Philpot and United States Barista Champion Sam Spillman of Seattle’s Caffe Vita. Soak up the best of the Northwest and order or gift a Seattle box today at Hello-Trove.com.
What was born out of a longing to resume travel and discovery during this period of COVID-related quarantine, has begun to satisfy the wanderlust for people around the country. “My Co-Founder Emilie and I are best friends and long-time travel companions, having explored 17 countries and 91 cities together to-date,” Erika Takeuchi said. “Immersing ourselves in new cultures over the years has shaped us and remains a very important tradition in our friendship. When travel bans became the norm this year, we felt inspired to dream up how it might be possible to ‘travel’ from home, and that is ultimately how TROVE was born.”
Through the process of building this concept and each TROVE box, Erika and Emilie cultivate connections with local experts and artisans in the cities they explore in order to curate experiences and locally-sourced box contents that offer TROVE Travelers a unique window into the local culture. “TROVE is not meant to replace travel, but to expand all the ways one might learn and absorb new-to-you traditions while also making memories through the immersive experiences the box offers - especially during this time of quarantine and restriction,” Takeuchi said. “It is incredibly fun, and we are thrilled to be sharing authentic Northwest traditions in our third TROVE box offering!”
TROVE has multiple ambitions, first of which is to bring the joy of discovering new places, people, and cultures to those yearning for them, especially during this time of restriction. But, second, is to support small businesses around the world who have been the casualties of the fallen tourism industry due to the widespread shutdowns. To do this, TROVE sources local ingredients for each box, and they also donate 20% of their profits directly to the host businesses featured in each box. “It’s so important to us that when it is safe to resume travel that the beautiful gems we know we have yet to discover are still right where they should be. This is not only a passion project for us -- it’s also our small contribution to those who have given us so much in our past travels,” Co-Founder Emilie Bridon said.
WHAT’S INSIDE TROVE’S SEATTLE BOX
Within every box, TROVE Travelers can look forward to guided, hands-on experiences that offer an authentic window into the featured city’s cultural traditions. For its Seattle box, TROVE has partnered with Eat Seattle owner and chef, Liz Philpot to bring a truly Seattle cooking workshop to its travelers. Classically trained from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, Chef Liz founded Eat Seattle in 2015 and began offering Seattle’s only chef-guided food tours of the historic Pike Place Public Market. During your TROVE travels, Chef Liz will immerse your senses and skills in a dish that uses traditional Northwest Fall/Winter ingredients. “Northwest cuisine goes beyond our famous salmon season in Summer and ventures into mushrooms, potatoes and apples,” Chef Liz said. From the pantry we will highlight two items always in Chef Liz's kitchen: Mama Lil's pickled peppers (with peppers grown in Yakima, WA) and Herbs de Provence sourced from Market Spice at Pike Place Public Market. “You will literally taste the waters of the Northwest with the finishing salt that you will find in your Seattle box - it comes from the San Juan Islands.” In this class, guests will learn how to roll open a pork loin, stuff it, and tie it up like a butcher. Chef Liz will also review the basics of sauces, explore flavor profile concepts, and knife skills that will be invaluable to the home chef for meals to come.
The Seattle box will also pay homage to the Northwest coffee culture by introducing TROVE Travelers to Seattle’s independently owned Caffe Vita and their Director of Coffee and Cafe Experience, Sam Spillman - a U.S. Barista Champion. “What I love about Seattle, first and foremost, is the coffee culture in this city,” Spillman said. “You can find a cafe on every block that serves high quality coffee.” So it’s only natural that this box would showcase Seattle’s best coffee offering. In this workshop, Sam will share her expert tips on how to brew the perfect cup of coffee using Seattle-based company MiiR’s Pourigami pour over and Caffe Vita’s Holiday Coffee Blend, which Sam helped to create. This workshop will offer insights on the power of pairing the coffee with different food items with the goal of giving TROVE Travelers the opportunity to bring the cafe-quality experience home. “I will be sharing with you insider tricks that we teach our very own baristas at Caffe Vita.” TROVE Travelers will find the MiiR Pourigami - the world’s smallest, most durable and portable travel coffee dipper - as well as the necessary filters and delicious coffee in the Seattle box. PAST TROVE BOXES
The very first at-home TROVE subscription and gift box took Americans to Florence, Italy where they joined Chef Patrizia Steccato in the virtual and communal experience of creating an Italian meal. This TROVE box also included a watercolor workshop with artist Betty Ritschel during which travelers learned watercolor techniques while painting the famous Duomo. In addition to these two professional workshops, TROVE Travelers received a watercolor set, curated Spotify playlist, unique Italians snacks, and a number of locally-sourced specialty ingredients used to make the Italian meal with Chef Patrizia.
TROVE’s second subscription and gift box offering took subscribers to Kyoto, Japan with Chef Aya Igano and Tea Expert, Atsuko Mori. Chef Aya led a 3-dish authentic, homemade Japanese virtual cooking workshop and Atsuko led a Japanese Tea Ceremony during which TROVE Travelers learned how to prepare and drink a delicious bowl of matcha tea. Sweet and savory Japanese snacks, furoshiki cloths from Musubi Kyoto, special Japanese ingredients for the cooking workshop, ceremonial grade matcha tea and a handmade bamboo whisk and teaspoon set for the tea ceremony were all included within the Kyoto box.
